“What are your life plans after retirement?”
You probably hear that question frequently. Whether you’re still working and nearing retirement, or you have been happily retired for 10, 15 or even 20 years, that question probably keeps popping up, from all sorts of well-meaning people. You may even have your go-to responses too, like “taking it day by day” or “just chasing around my grandkids.”
Asking a person about their plans after retirement is a lot like querying a kindergartener with “what do you want to be when you grow up?” or asking a high school graduate, “what do you want to do for a living?” You probably have a rough idea, but there are still so many factors to consider. Some of these factors are known, like travel plans or investments, but many of them are unknown, such as healthcare costs. Life is unpredictable, and the events you don’t expect are oftentimes the ones that make the biggest impact on your life plans.
Contrary to popular belief, life after retirement isn’t about the next phase of your life — it’s about the next phases. So the best way to think about your life after retirement isn’t like it’s one event, but many possible events.
Just like you tried to always stay prepared for every phase of your working life, it’s important to do the same for each phase of your life after retirement. Unfortunately, while many seniors diligently planned ahead before their retirement, many are not prepared for their continuing care needs after retirement.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, only 12% of adults aged 65+ have long-term care insurance. Meanwhile, more than half of people 65+ will need some type of long-term care in their lifetimes, according to the Urban Institute. With sobering stats like these, it’s no wonder that many retirees, and even non-retirees, are worried about running out of money.
According to research by the National Institute on Retirement Security, 56% of respondents say they are concerned about achieving a financially secure retirement. Meanwhile, a study conducted by Bay Alarm Medical found that “financial instability” was one of respondents’ top fears about growing older, with 80% of Americans saying they were seriously worried about running out of money after retirement. Running out of money in retirement worries people even more than death!
Worrying about money is no way to live in retirement, as you worked hard all of your life to worry less, not more. But with unexpected expenses from long-term healthcare costs, it’s hard not to grow concerned, especially if you don’t have a plan.
However, while these numbers are daunting or even scary, especially, you don’t have to go it alone. While you can’t predict what will happen in your life after retirement, you can prepare for it. That is where we come in.
At Plymouth Place Senior Living, you can seamlessly transition through every phase of your retirement, from independent living to, if you need it, assisted living, skilled nursing or memory care — all under one roof, for a pre-arranged, predictable price. We develop continuing care plans to serve your specific needs, whether you’re an active and independent senior, or in a phase of life where you need extra support or skilled care.
Whatever your level of care, we are always there. Our Comprehensive Life Care plan is how.

Why is Comprehensive Life Care a smart investment?
Comprehensive Life Care is a smart investment because it allows you to secure all of your continuing care under one roof for a pre-arranged, predictable rate. If your life or health circumstances change, you won’t be hit with unexpected expenses or surprising, out-of-pocket costs. You or your loved ones also won’t have to go through the headache and heartache of finding new care options or providers, moving to a different and unfamiliar facility, or arranging healthcare treatment options, as all of our continuing care takes place right on our campus.
It’s peace of mind during challenging and changing times. Comprehensive Life Care empowers you to predict expenses so that your estate will never be depleted and you can leave behind a legacy for your loved ones.
Signing up for our Comprehensive Life Care plan starts with an entrance fee. This one-time fee secures your access to our continuum of care and helps limit the costs associated with higher levels of care. At the end of life, up to 90% of the fee is refundable to your estate. The portion of the entrance fee that is not refunded is also tax deductible, and you may also be able to get an annual tax deduction on the monthly service fee as a pre-paid medical expense. Be sure to speak to your accountant or financial advisor on these additional opportunities to save.
